From Our Photospondents

So now we'll put winter lower on the page, 'cause spring is coming (see right). But if you head out  to ski, sled, ice skate, or whatever, be sure to take lots of photos. The kids won't be this age next year. And be careful of metering when everything in the frame is as white as snow (or as ice, in this case). It can fool your meter —but it didn't fool this photospondent from Pennsylvania.

And From Matt Teuten

New Orleans is a city of many characters and every time I travel there to shoot it teaches me that it pays to have my camera in hand and ready to go. I like getting to know a subject before photographing them so I spent time chatting with this guy in the French Quarter. He was a very interesting subject—a nice person too—and I got some images I really like. For more images please visit www.matt2ten.com

Spring…

Well…. almost. But we can sense that it’s not too far away. And as we and the world (northern hemisphere, that is) begin to emerge from the cold, get out and look for signs of life: A plant pushing through the snow; buds emerging on branches; animals (like us) beginning to stir. Try to capture that feeling you have inside when you can feel warmth in the sun once again.

About Our Photo Contests

Bob & Cary love looking at photos, and we want to see yours! The Contests will be a regular feature of PixBoomBa. We will give you an assignment and a deadline—the rest is up to you. Cary & Bob will review the submissions and during the course of each Contest will post all the images you send in a special Contest Gallery. We will critique the best photos in PixBoomBlog, and the winners will have incredibly laudatory editions of the blog dedicated just to them—and receive a prize of extremely suitable gravitas!

Street Photography

You spend the majority of time waiting and hoping for the right subject to happen by. For his latest series Matt Teuten s et up one small light on an abandoned street corner in New Orleans and waited. After many hours he had made a few hundred images and met some very interesting people. Having one small flash allowed Matt to control lighting and make the images a little more stylized, but he relied on the subject to bring something to the final image—be it a chef, doctor or homeless person. As with many things in life its all about the interaction. For more images please visit www.matt2ten.com
